In 2015, Simon Cowell lost his mother, and following her death, he apparently went into a pretty dark spot. He wasn’t processing the death of his mom, or even his father, who died back in 1999, and began shoving his feelings down with work.
He was working constantly, and while he was successful, he wasn’t happy. During a recent ‘Diary Of A CEO’ podcast, the 64-year-old star gave credit to his 10-year-old son Eric for giving his life some purpose again.
I think particularly when I lost my mum, I was on a downward spiral at that point. I lost everyone, you know, I’ve lost my parents. It’s finality now. I was a ridiculous workaholic, and I was very successful but I wasn’t happy, I really, really wasn’t happy.
But all that changed when his wife, Lauren, called to inform him she was pregnant…
When I got the call from Lauren, which starts, any call that starts with, ‘Are you sitting down?’ You know what‘s coming next. It was like, ‘Are you sitting down?’ ‘Yes,’ ‘Well,’ and she told me. And yes it did absolutely change, it changed everything in my life. It made me happy again.
How sweet. Being a parent is just the greatest thing, huh? By the way, Simon named Eric after his father, so that’s pretty special.
We’re glad to hear he’s in a much better place now.
