‘Trap’ Star Josh Hartnett Says He Doesn’t Want His Kids To Become Actors

46-year-old actor Josh Hartnett has had lots of success in Hollywood. He most recently starred in the new M. Night Shyamalan thriller, Trap.

What’s interesting about the film is that it features M. Night’s daughter, Saleka. She’s a singer, and she plays one in the movie, and all the songs are her own. M. Night has admitted he wrote the story with that in mind. He wanted to show off his daughter’s music, which is the ultimate dad move.

Hartnett has four kids of his own with his wife, Tamsin Egerton, and during an interview with PEOPLE, he revealed he doesn’t want them following in his footsteps. They live far away from Hollywood in the English countryside.

We don’t bring [work] home. Dad has to go to work, and they do know what I do, but they don’t understand the thing yet. And I’m glad that they don’t. We’ll try and keep them away from it as much as possible because we want them to have normal upbringings.

And while ultimately it’s up to his kids to figure out what they want to do in life, he won’t be pushing them toward Hollywood at all…

I mean, I’d have to be if they really wanted to, but I wouldn’t encourage it. Not to make it too simplified, but I do think the industry is really tough on girls, and I don’t want that for my kids. I also think the industry is tough on actors. We’re always waiting for people to say it’s okay for us to do our job.

He’s only speaking facts! Hollywood is especially tough on girls. Yes, things are better than they were 50 years ago, but it’s still not great.

It’s worth noting though that Egerton (Hartnett’s wife) is also an actor, so you know… it might be in their blood!
