It might be hard to believe, but Machine Gun Kelly is a proud father. He shares a 15-year-old daughter named Casie with his ex-partner, Emma Cannon.
He had Casie when he was just 19-years-old, and to his credit, he stepped up to the plate and has been present in her life. But it hasn’t always been pretty. The 34-year-old star has struggled with drugs and alcohol throughout much of his life.
During a recent episode of the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, MGK revealed he finally decided to take sobriety seriously after a conversation with his daughter.
It started with my daughter saying, ‘Dad, you know I can tell when you’re high?’ It broke my heart. It was the ultimate let down. This was when she was 11 or 12. It took me a while afterward, because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you. That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid.
Earlier this month, he shared with his fans that he’s one year sober. He doesn’t even drink alcohol anymore, which is a huge step for him.
For those who don’t know, MGK did not have a great childhood. His mother left the house when he was just 9-years-old, and his father suffered from depression and had trouble holding down a job. MGK recalled just having two outfits to wear to school and being bullied for it.
Now look at him though! He’s sober, working on being a great father, and has a net worth of $25 million! Safe to say, he has more than two outfits in his closet now.
