Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has a new movie coming out titled Never Let Me Go. In the movie, she plays a protective mother trying to save her kids from a presumably evil force.
Tapping into the role was easy for the 58-year-old star because she’s a mother in real life. She has a 16-year-old daughter named Nahla and a 10-year-old son named Maceo-Robert.
She told the media that while she is protective of her children, she’s not quite as protective as her character in the movie…
I am pretty mama bear, but I don’t think I’m too mama bear, because I really, really, really understand that I’m just the vessel to bring these kids here. I don’t expect them to be clones of me, do what I do. I don’t expect to really influence who they become.
She went on to talk about how her job is to just nurture them, feed them, and take care of them. And she’s had to do a lot of that lately because her daughter just experienced her first heartbreak.
She just was in a thing and she got her heart broken. Never gets easier. It’s just holding space knowing that this is all part of growing, right? We’ve all been there and knowing that in six months time, she’s going to forget about it. But in this moment, it’s the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup and she feels like she’s dying. A little part of me is dying, and I can’t tell her that because she’ll just say, ‘Mom, you don’t understand.’
Ah, the joys of raising teenagers. Parenting just never gets easier, does it?
