Kristen Bell and her husband Dax Shepard have finally discovered how to get their daughters to stop asking for cellphones.
They have an 11-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old daughter, which is about the age when kids really start wanting a phone. Thankfully, Kristen and Dax have managed to refrain from getting their daughters a phone, and during a recent convo on The View, Kristen gave partial credit to their parenting hack.
What is it? We’ll let her explain…
To be honest, the initial conversations we had with our kids were about how phones are a trick. We felt that was an interesting way to introduce it. Whenever my husband and I would pick up it ,we would go, ‘You know, this phone, it has all these tricks inside that make me want to come back to it.’ They kind of developed a little bit of a suspicion about it, which was really helpful.
That’s actually pretty genius. Most parents are always on their phone, so of course their kid is going to want one of their own. It looks so cool, right? But if you act like the phone is weighing you down and is actually a burden, they might not want one as much.
She did reveal that her kids have iPads, but they mostly use them for listening to music or texting their grandma.
Kristen admitted she’s pleased to see more parents catching on to the dangers of social media and the internet…
To be honest, I’m just glad people are researching it and exploring it. Because with every new piece of technology — look, cars. Cars are so great. We can get everywhere! And then we’re like, ‘Whoops, accidents. We gotta do seat belts.’ There’s going to have to be progression with our understanding and how we’re caring for the people who are using this technology.
We could not have said it better!
