Even though the trend in Hollywood is to start a family much later in life, 41-year-old Andrew Garfield isn’t sure if he wants to join them.
The super talented actor plays a dad in his new film, We Live in Time, but during a recent interview with Esquire, he admitted he isn’t sure if he wants to become a father in real life.
Why? Because he’s already tired.
I’m already a tired guy. I don’t want to be a tired dad. Bringing a kid into the world is a huge deal, particularly bringing new life into the context of my life, there’s a heavy burden there.
When he was in his 20s and 30s, he thought for sure he’d want to start a family by the time he hit 40, but obviously that hasn’t happened.
And it sounds like it might not ever happen, which is okay! Being a parent is not for everyone, and Garfield is trying to ignore the societal pressure.
I’ve been releasing myself from the societal obligation of procreating by the time I’m 40. It’s more about accepting a different path than what was kind of expected of me from birth, like ‘By this time you will have done this, and you will have at least one child,’ that kind of thing.
We all go down our own path in life. Sometimes that path is lined with discarded LEGOs and sometimes it’s not.
