Sofia Richie gave birth to her first baby in May of this year. She welcomed a little baby girl with her husband, Elliot Grainge.

And while it was a magical time for the couple, it was also a scary time. When Sofia returned home after giving birth, she started swelling up all over her body.

“I went home and I blew up like a balloon. I felt very ill. My blood pressure was 165 over 103,” she revealed on the “She MD” podcast.

Podcast co-host Dr. Thais Aliabadi interjected, saying the condition Richie was experiencing was called “postpartum preeclampsia.” It’s a rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine after childbirth.

Sofia did NOT want to leave her baby. She even hid in the closet before being convinced to go back to the hospital.

Overall, the entire pregnancy was pretty rough on the 26-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie. Not only did she face complications after giving birth, she also experienced labor pains for six weeks before giving birth.

Yikes… but hey, we’re sure it was all worth it!
