Hoda Kotb is a full-time mother now. She even quit her job at the TODAY show, so that she could spend more time with her two daughters and move to the suburbs.
During a recent conversation at a Making Space Wellness Weekend, the 60-year-old entertainer talked about imposter syndrome with author Suzy Welch.
There are women who are at the top of their game who we would look at and say, ‘Wow,’ who are sitting at home and thinking to themselves, ‘Am I really good enough?’ At one point, after I got my kids, I said to myself, ‘I wonder if I deserve them.’ Imagine that feeling. That’s so crazy, but I thought it. And I thought, ‘I’ll just work really hard to be really good, because I’m not sure.’
Ah, yes. That’s the life of a parent. Or really, that’s life as a human. It doesn’t matter if it’s parenting, or a relationship, or a job… we all have those, “I’m not good enough” thoughts.
How did Hoda beat those thoughts? Time.
It took some time for me to realize I do deserve these kids. I’m here, I deserve to be their mother. I think for all of us in here, we all have it about something, but you [need to] realize, ‘I’m worth it.’
Such a great message. We all need to remind ourselves of that. You are worth your own happiness. Don’t let anyone (including yourself!) convince you otherwise.
