Amy Adams is one of Hollywood’s most talented actresses. You put a camera in front of her and she’s going to knock it out of the park.
But motherhood didn’t come as easily to the 50-year-old star.
During a new interview with PEOPLE, she talked a little about her new movie, Nightbitch, and how she related to its themes…
One of the things I really deeply identified with was not wanting to share with people that you were struggling, wanting to be like, ‘No, I’ve got it under control. I can do it.’ Wanting so badly to be good at everything.
She remembers back in 2011, just a few months after giving birth to her daughter, she went back to work on set. She was also doing promotion for a movie she had filmed previously.
I wasn’t sleeping because I was up with her at night. I was tired, but also I felt so different. I know the world didn’t see me differently. But I felt it very internally that something had shifted. Just burning the candle at both ends until you can only do that for so long, and doing what I call closet crying. You never want anybody to see you cry, so I would cry in the closet.
We’ve all been there, right? If not the closet, maybe in the parked car in the garage. Or the bathroom. There are so many places to cry.
Thankfully, things are much better now. She slowly found her rhythm as a mother. She also gives credit to her husband, Darren Le Gallo, for stepping up when she needed him the most.
