Many celebrities, especially ones with as much stardom as Elton John, choose to homeschool their children because life can be difficult for them in public school.
But Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, felt like it was essential for their kids to have the standard school experience. For those who don’t know, they share two sons together, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11.
During an interview with TIME magazine, Furnish talked a little about their decision to not homeschool their sons…
We deliberately didn’t homeschool our children because we want them to be their own people and to define life as they want to be defined.
School is often where people find themselves and discover what they’re interested in, so we have to agree with their decision.
We know Elton only wants what’s best for his kids. He spoke earlier this year about how all his career accomplishments mean nothing to him when compared to his family…
For me personally, I’ve had an amazing life, great career, incredible achievements, music, blah, blah, blah, but I would say that our sons, and David, are the most important things to me. That’s why I came off the road, to be able to spend the latter part of my life being there for them.
And let’s be honest here, at 77-years-old, Elton deserves time off the road, even if he didn’t have kids. We think he’s contributed more than his share of art!
