As some of you may know, Drew Barrymore is the proud momma of two daughters: Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.
During a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 49-year-old actress talked a lot about motherhood and how it gave her purpose in life…
They’re my North Star, my compass. I love that in the life that I got to live before I knew them, my priorities were different. And ever since I came into the world, I understand what the purpose of my life is. It’s wild.
And what is that purpose? Being a mom, or more specifically, being a mom to two girls. Barrymore has been vocal about how she believes her parents didn’t really protect her when she was young.
Now, she’s doing everything in her power to make sure her daughters never feel that way…
I found out I was having a daughter with Olive, and I thought, ‘Oh right, ok karmically that makes sense.’ There’s a lot of, ‘Ok, I’m having a girl,’ When I found out I was having Frankie, my second daughter, it humbled me in a way that I’ve never known and I’ll never forget the moment because I realized I was put on this planet to raise girls. And that everything in my life was captured in a butterfly net to try and get this right.
That’s such a refreshing way to look at life and parenting. This is why Barrymore is Hollywood’s most beloved actress. We’re sure she’s a great mother.
