No matter how hard you try, you will never be a perfect parent. That might sound harsh, but it’s the truth. Even celebrities, who have all the advantages in the world, still fall short of perfection as parents.
During a recent interview with The New York Times, 38-year-old ‘You‘ actor Penn Badgley remembered a time where he caught himself being short with his 4-year-old son, James.
It wasn’t helping him because he was already so upset and I stopped and I said, … ‘I’m being impatient with you and you probably don’t like the way that I’m speaking to you, do you?’ And I said, ‘I’m sorry.’
That’s a situation where he caught himself and was able to correct his attitude in the moment. But we don’t always catch ourselves in the moment.
Sometimes it can be tough and you can just be over it. And for whatever reason, there’s always going to be the times as a parent, … you lose your patience. For me, it’s just the sheer size of them, being so small, the naivete, the helplessness. I would lose my patience with other people, no doubt, but not [him].
Yeah, their cuteness does help sometimes. But once they become teenagers, the cuteness fades and you have to remind yourself how much you love them.
For those who don’t know, Badgley shares his little one with his wife, Domino Kirke. She has a 15-year-old son from a previous relationship.
