Chances are, you’ve dealt with imposter syndrome at least once in your life. Maybe you’ve felt it in your career, or even parenthood.
36-year-old actress Brenda Song knows all about the feeling. She recently went through a difficult period of self-doubt about her place in Hollywood after becoming a mom and being out of work for a few years.
I feel like I still have imposter syndrome. It’s so hard because I think for me, having grown up in this industry, it’s like you’re always going to go through phases. You understand evolution and changing and always trying to figure out who you are on top of just growing up and being a human.”
Thankfully, becoming a mom has actually helped with this. If you don’t know, Song shares two kids with her ‘Home Alone’ partner, Macaulay Culkin.
She told PEOPLE…
Becoming a mom, finding such fulfillment in my personal life has changed me so much. I feel like for the first time it’s truly that next phase in my life. And with that being said, my priorities changed. That was the big difference. I think that’s what I was struggling with is our society really tells us as women to follow your dreams, do what you got to do, go out there, do your thing, girl, but also be a full-time mom, make sure you’re at home and making dinner.
It’s a lot. We fully agree. It’s all about finding balance, and sometimes it can take a year or two to find that groove.
But it helps if you have a good support system around you. Make sure your friends and family are making your life easier… not harder!
