53-year-old actor Walton Goggins doesn’t often talk about his family life, but during a recent appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the ‘White Lotus‘ actor decided to open up a little.
He was asked about his calming energy, revealing that even as a parent, he’s super calm, “I’ve been a parent now for 14 years, and I’ve never had an argument with my child ever.”
For those who don’t know, Goggins shares his 14-year-old son Augustus with his wife, Nadia Conners. He talked about one time, when his wife went out of town, and Augustus was in a particularly bratty phase.
His mom, my wife had to go out of town for a couple of days and we had a conversation about that. And about two different roads that he could go down. I said, ‘Well, you know, it’s a big choice. You know, this is kinda how you’ve been acting and you could continue to act that way, and this is probably what your life is gonna look like. Or you could wake up with gratitude, you know, and really look around and be thankful for your life.’
Goggins said his son went to bed that night and woke up in the middle of the night with his answer. He told his father he wanted to wake up with gratitude, and while it hasn’t been 100% smooth sailing since, the change has been noticeable.
What a sweet story! And that’s the way to do it. Talk to your child like a grown up and they will respect you for it.
