Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest people in the world. His net worth currently sits at around $102.2 billion, which is an insane amount of money.
If you didn’t know, Bill shares three kids with his ex-wife, Melinda. They have two daughters, Jennifer, 28, and Phoebe, 22, plus a son Rory, 25.
During a recent episode of the Figuring Out with Raj Shamani podcast, Bill was asked how much he’d be leaving behind to his children when he passes away. It’s a pretty personal question, but one he seemed open to answering.
In my case, my kids got a great upbringing and education, but [they will get] less than 1 percent of the total wealth, because I decided it wouldn’t be a favor to them.
Before you go, “What? Less than 1 percent?” you have to remember he’s worth over $100 billion. His kids would still get around $1 billion. That’s still a ridiculous amount of money. The kind of money that takes care of a family for generations.
Bill also explained that he doesn’t expect his kids to take over the Microsoft brand…
It’s not a dynasty. I’m not asking them to run Microsoft. I wanna give them a chance to have their own earnings and success, be significant and not overshadowed by the incredible luck and good fortune I had.
Out of all the billionaires, Bill does appear to be one of the more decent ones. He donates $9 billion every year to a number of charities.
And he actually wants to no longer be one of the wealthiest people in the world…
I have more than enough money for my own consumption. I’m getting myself to go down the list, and I’ll be proud when I fall off altogether. I have an obligation to return my resources to society in ways that have the greatest impact for reducing suffering and improving lives.
