For the first time, Hailey Bieber is opening up about her terrifying birth story. The 28-year-old model gave birth to son Jack last year with her husband, Justin Bieber.
And while she’s loving motherhood right now, that was not the case during the intense and scary labor just 8 months ago.
While talking with Vogue, Hailey revealed she started leaking amniotic fluid and had to be induced at 39 weeks. Doctors gave her Pitocin, a medication used to spark contractions, and a Foley balloon, which is a catheter-like device that gets the cervix to dilate.
That s— was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.
The painful experience lasted 18 hours in total, but the misery didn’t end with the arrival of Jack. Poor Hailey had a postpartum hemorrhage, which is a potentially life-threatening condition of severe bleeding.
I trust my doctor with my life, and so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me. But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.
Thankfully, her wonderful team of doctors were able to get the bleeding under control, and both her and baby Jack are healthy now.
But still… geez, what a wild birth!
