In a lengthy interview with Romper, Meghan Trainor talked a lot about being a new mother. The 28-year-old singer and her ‘Spy Kids‘ husband Daryl Sabara welcomed their first baby boy (Riley) together last year.

And unfortunately, the birth was not without complications.

During the recent interview, Trainor explained how Riley had trouble waking up to feed. It was a super scary time for the new mother, and it was made worse by the NICU nurses.

They kept asking me if I was on antidepressants during the pregnancy, and I was, but on the lowest dose possible, and all my doctors said it was safe and wouldn’t affect him.

We can only imagine how stressful that situation must have been. She just gave birth, she’s obviously worried about her baby, and then at the same time she feels like she’s being blamed for him not waking up.

It was really messed up. They had no name for what was wrong. He just wouldn’t wake up. They said, ‘It’s really up to Riley when he wants to wake up.’ I’d be like ‘Really? Can’t you just zap him and get him up?’

After five days, Meghan and her husband were able to take Riley home, but that doesn’t mean the anxiety stopped. He didn’t cry much for the first month of his life, which caused more worry for Meghan.

We kept being like, ‘Uh oh, what’s up with him? Is this what serial killers are like when they’re first born? They never cry?’

You’ll be happy to know her son has since cried and we’re assuming she no longer believes she’s raising a serial killer, which is not only good news for her, but everyone her son will come into contact with in the future.

The interview ended on a sweet note, with Trainor looking around her home, spotting her husband holding Riley and getting him ready for a playdate.

It’s everything I ever dreamed of. Years ago, when people asked, ‘Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I’m like, right here. But I never even thought it could be this good.
